By working with parents, we are able to make genuine difference to children’s upbringing. This is epitomized by our Family Camps, where we take families away to an area outside Bangkok, and actually teach parents on how to be good parents. Surprisingly, many never really cared about their children. During the camp, we demonstrate interacting with the child, storytelling, cooking, first aid, the all around care for a child, as well as how parents should treat each other.
We work with parents on a daily basis, from when they drop the children off in the morning to collecting them at the end of the day. We make home visits and host many events involving children on Thai festive days. Through our Pregnant Women’s Programme, the Foundation begins its work even before children are born. This programme starts with a workshop that takes mothers and fathers through what to expect from being new parents. We continue to give support throughout the pregnancy, and early months after birth, as well as introduce them to a volunteer who has also been through the programme. One of our guidelines for new mothers is that babies should be breastfed for the first 6 months of life. We then supply mothers with baby formula milk. It is at this stage that we accept them into our Daycare Centres. In addition, we administer an Emergency and Special Aid Fund that helps children and their families after disasters, and in special circumstances. Both the Milk Fund and the Emergency Fund were established by HRH Princess Galyani and HRH the Princess’Mother. These projects continue to receive royal support to this day, through annual grants. Involve parents in each step of the child’s development to actively enhance participation, support and increase affection. |
